Dear Victoria, dear Alex,
and whoever else opened this box,
in October 2006 a quiet, hazy record came out of Baltimore, and it has been playing somewhere in my life ever since.
These are fifty-four cards, one for each song that stayed. They aren’t illustrations. They’re what I saw with my eyes closed: a pool that turned into the sea, a night bus going through space, a house where the sun only reaches the toys.
There are no rules. Draw one while you listen. Lay three in a row and see what they say. Leave them face-down for a while.
Thank you for the songs.
with love,
a listener
